Description: "The next time you hear from me about the vice presidential selection process will be when I have selected a vice president," Obama said in a press conference aboard his campaign plane. "If you hear second-hand accounts, rumors, gossip about the selection process, you can take it from me that it is wrong, because we're not going to be talking about it in the press." He continued, "There's no decision that I'm going to make that's going to be more important before the November election. I intend to do it right, and I'm not going to do it in the press."..the Illinois senator instructed reporters to dismiss all speculation about running mates. He said he won't discuss the selection process, or parade prospects in public, as Sen. John McCain seemed to do last month when Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former opponent Mitt Romney visited his Arizona ranch. The McCain camp said the get-together was strictly social, but it sparked wild speculation that the presumptive GOP nominee was considering all three as possible ticket mates. A reporter jumped in with a follow-up question: Any chance Obama would pick Clinton for his No. 2? Obama stared back incredulously. "As I've said before, Sen. Clinton would be on any short list...but I am not going to discuss who is being considered." The full statement from Clinton spokesman Phil Singer, issued this afternoon, read as follows: "While Senator Clinton has made clear throughout this process that she will do whatever she can to elect a Democrat to the White House, she is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her. The choice here is Senator Obama's and his alone." http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/06/05/obama_plans_to_keep_lid_on_vee.html Obama's choice of a running mate will be the first important decision he makes with the whole country watching, so it will be a momentous act of self-definition. If he chooses her, it will be an act of self-diminishment, especially now that some of her acolytes are aggressively suggesting that some unwritten rule of American politics stipulates that anyone who finishes a strong second in the nomination contest is entitled to second place on the ticket. Behind the idea that Obama should run in harness with Clinton is this wobbly theory: Because the Republican Party is in such bad odor, if you unify the Democratic Party, that will suffice to win the election, and she is a necessary and sufficient catalyst of unity. But she is neither. She would be a potent unifier of John McCain's party, thereby setting the stage for exactly what the nation does not need, another angry campaign of mere mobilization rather than persuasion...the dotty idea that Barack Obama should choose to have Hillary Clinton down the hall in the West Wing, nursing her disappointments, her grievances and her future presidential ambitions while her excitable husband wanders...with his increasingly Vesuvian temper...verbal fender benders and his interesting business associates. That this idea survived her off-putting speech Tuesday night, after Obama won the right to choose a running mate, is evidence that many Democrats do not fathom the gratitude that less-blinkered Americans feel for Obama because he has closed the Clinton parenthesis in our presidential history...she obliquely but clearly identified herself as the person who would be "the strongest candidate and the strongest president" and, pointedly, the person most ready to "take charge as commander in chief." There is a fine line between admirable tenacity and delusional denial, and Clinton tiptoed across it. Surely she, the most polarizing Democrat, is not the only Democrat who can help Obama appeal to the voters who rejected him in Kentucky and West Virginia. And as his running mate, she would nullify his narrative. The candidate embracing the "future" should not glue himself to Washington circa 1993. Someone promising to "turn the page" should not revert to an earlier chapter. Someone whose mantra is "change" should not embrace her theme of restoration -- that the 1990s were paradise and Democrats promise paradise regained. She, whose experiences as First Spouse have not impressed Obama as acquisitions of national security expertise, would not help him deflect McCain's predictable attack on his thin curriculum vitae. And the more she seems to be pushing Obama to choose her, the more resolutely he must resist. Otherwise, at the beginning of a contest in which McCain will portray him as a flimsy figure, Obama will define himself as someone who can be pushed around. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/06/clinton_vp_pick_would_diminish.html

Here's how Obama picked his V.P: "I need a white male, who never has gotten more than 7% of the Democratic primary vote...I could pick Hillary who is loved by 18 million people...but my wife HATES Hillary...I"ll pick Biden."

Sharpton?! So there's a chance we might have two gorillas running our country?! WTF?!

If he's a new kind of politician like he says, he won't have to try and pick someone to balance him. Let him pick someone he really wants. Like his wife. Or maybe one of these choices: Obama/Obama (c'mon, she wears the pants) Obama/Kilpatrick Obama/ Rezko Obama/Wright Obama/Spitz er Obama/Edwards Obama/Jackson Obama/Sharpton

Though I think you're a dick... that was funny as hell. Well played good fag.

I think the idea is that some people, maybe older white people, might vote for "Kaine" thinking he is McCain. But really Barack should pick someone more in line with his values and beliefs, although that is hard because Mao,Stalin, etc are dead. Mugabe would be a good choice but I doubt he'll leave his dictatorship to join Barack's. Maybe Fidel because he is old and so there won't be a chance of him usurping Obama's personality cult.

This is the new republican talking point. Obama is different. Obama has beaten the Clintons. He did it with small donations. He's raised more money then any canidate in history. Check his record, he is different. When their was a call for war, he was different. you sir are the sheep. you wet yourself thinking terrorist are going to get you. You have given up your and mine freedoms and engaged in a horrible war. All your heroes turned out to be homos, drug addicts, liars and crooks.

Muslims for Obama in 08! we will unite behind you so we can make serious religious change in this country!

Washington, DC - Just like other high-powered political insiders, Presidential nominee Barack Obama joins the rogue's gallery of high-profile Democratic Party members who scammed highly profitable home loans. Obama, purchased a $1.65 million mansion in Chicago through a "super, super jumbo" loan he received from Northern Trust Bank in Illinois, which was below the average of what a typical Chicagoan pursuing a similar low loan rate received at the time," Is this the change you sheep talk of?

The best we can hope for,is after 4 years of proving B.O. is just another politician his small doners will start giving their $ to indies running for seats in congress.I wish there were 4 or 5 candedates in the gen'l election now.We could do it the way the Constitution is written,2nd place gets VP.Then maybe they'll understand it's the PEOPLE they serve not the PARTY.

hilary's shade

personally, i would prefer if hilary goes for vice president. I would prefer it for some simple reasons: The breach between democrats would be sealed: every democrat will be for their candidate and, therefore, against McCain. Another reason is Hilary does bring something to the table, experience is something that, although i disagree with it, people say obama lacks, while hilary definitely haves it (maybe too much of it). A real problem for obama in this situation would be getting out of

That's why the Republicans have been propping her up for the past 7 months. They she'll unite their party if she's on the ticket. They don't even have to lay a glove on Hillary. All they'll say is "we can't have Bill Clinton back in the White House with nothing to do" watch?v=-KKPOU2vXrY

LOL - Dude, you're cracking me up. I hope you're being sarcastic, although I fear not...

I imagine the GOP is 'chomping at the bit' to have Hillary be VP. Understand, if Hillary is asked and accepts the VP, the GOP will have three persons to attack...Obama, Hillary and BILL!!! Did you see recently that Bill is supposedly up to his old shenanigans? He and Gina Gershon are an item according to Vanity Fair. It will never end.

I think Obama should pick his cousin Odinga as a running mate. Odinga has experience with promises to radical Islam and a plus for Obama is Odinga has experience in using ethnic cleansing if the election is lost. Obama and Odinga are also both Luo tribesmen and know each other well so no bickering between Pres&VP. He and Hillary would fight all the time. Obama/Odinga '08! Vote for us or we break out the machetes!

It is clear that Obama is NOT a team player. In the war of egos between he and Hillary, Obama wins.. hands down. His "hail fellow, well met" public personna, works for him but his evolving flourish for power reflects an underlying political demeanor that should be regarded by voters with cautionary discretion.
